Whenever I want my whole family to cheer for dinner time, I feed them tacos. This at-home taco recipe is always a huge hit! My personal favorite way to enjoy it is taco bowl style with a fun buffet of ingredients. As a nutritionist, I know that lining the bowl with protein, vegetables, fiber and healthy fats is one way to pack on the macronutrients! A healthy and delicious dinner that everyone likes.
Elements to the Taco Bowl
When building taco bowls, there are a few key elements to consider.
- Proteins: In this regard, I’ve rounded up a few different options here that include beef, chicken, turkey, seafood, and vegetarian.
- Wheat or Green: For taco bowl mats, you’ll need a sturdy grain or green base. I sometimes like the combo of the two! My Mexican Slaw recipe provides the perfect base as greens and is loaded with fiber! “Grain” can also be grain free like my Spanish Cauliflower Rice or Lime Cauliflower rice.
- Salsa: An absolute must! This often separates a mediocre bowl from an excellent taco bowl. My recipe for the Best Salsa Ever gets hundreds of 5 star reviews for a reason!
- Sauce: In addition to salsa, I like to add other flavorful sauces to my recipe. My Creamy Avocado Dressing is another idea for upping the flavor in your taco bowl.
- Toppings and garnishes: You can’t eat a bowl of tacos without diced onions and tomatoes, fresh chopped cilantro, or even crushed tortilla chips for added crunch. It’s not the same!
