SharkNinja Changes The Outdoor Cooking Game (Again) With The Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Oven

Less than a year ago, SharkNinja—the leading brand of small kitchen appliances in the US—introduced the Ninja Woodfire Grill. As a first-of-its-kind combo of outdoor grill, smoker and air fryer, the Woodfire Grill changes the outdoor cooking game while unleashing another hit product for SharkNinja.

Today, the company looks to capitalize on its recent success with the introduction of a brand new product, the Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Oven. This electric outdoor oven unlocks 8-in-1 versatility with a wide temperature range of 105-700°F, capable of baking a Neopolitan style pizza in three minutes. The Woodfire Oven also offers the ability to add authentic woodfire flavor to anything you make at any temperature with just 1/2 cup of pellets.

With 22% of Americans cooking outdoors more often due to the pandemic, SharkNinja is clearly committed to evolving its offerings to meet consumer demand. Can the company maintain this steady pace of releasing innovative, new products?

According to Ninja Chief Commercial Officer Neil Shah, the answer is a resounding “yes” as consumers spend more time cooking outside with family and friends.

“We think this trend is here to stay and consumers are constantly on the lookout for exciting outdoor solutions like the Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Oven,” he said.

More than just pizza

Upon first glance, the Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Oven looks to be a sleek and sturdy outdoor pizza oven. And it is. But it’s capable of so much more, according to Shah, who said its versatility is an intentional product design to separate it from the burgeoning pizza oven category.

“We asked ourselves, What if we could give the consumer an outdoor oven that delivers more capabilities than their indoor one ever could? Pizza is very niche so we designed this product to be open to a wide section of the consumer base. So you can cook a 3-minute pizza and also roast, bake and caramelize, while having the freedom to add bold, woodfire flavor whenever you want—capabilities that consumers don’t even know they have, with the simple touch of a button. ”

According to Shah, consumers also want to be able to do more with less, another reason why the Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Oven is a game-changer. “It gives them the functionality and versatility to be able to do so many different things and they certainly don’t want to spend two hours cooking something if they can accomplish it in fifteen minutes. These lifestyle changes and consumer behavior changes are going to resonate really well with the Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Oven.”

Baking customer feedback into new products

Inquiring minds want to know: How does SharkNinja develop and release its products so quickly? It all comes down to agility, according to Shah, who said their product development strategy is similar to the software development cycle.

“It’s very agile where developments occur on a weekly basis,” he said. “We don’t develop products in three-month stages. We’ve been on this outdoor journey for a long time gaining a lot of consumer feedback and one of the things we always ask internally is what gives us the right to go in this new category?”

The Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Grill is a very highly rated product, for example, but what if Ninja could take all of this other feedback and create another product that can allow consumers to solve other cooking challenges and desires?

“Our agile product development cycle includes consumer reviews and feedback and additional feedback from chefs across the country,” said Shah. “That critical feedback is the reason the new Ninja Outdoor Oven reaches 700 degrees; you need high heat to unlock certain things that your indoor oven cannot do like achieving that great crust and char just like you would in your favorite restaurant.”

The release of the Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Oven is another important milestone for the Ninja brand and hints at many more exciting products on the horizon

“When we enter a new category like outdoor cooking, we don’t want to be a product company, we want to create a portfolio and we want it to mean something within that category,” said Shah. “There’s a pipeline of outdoor products coming in 2024. We are invested in making Ninja a household name in outdoor appliances in addition to new products and categories that will continue driving growth in other areas of the business.”
