“There should be more people fighting criminals,” said John Irias
In an interview with FOX 11, Irias said the woman who attacked the young girl shouted obscenities at the young girl during the assault.
‘He shouted racial slurs. She says things like “I’m tired of you Hispanics,” she says of homeless attackers.
‘It’s just a random attack, just a hateful crime. Luckily I was wearing my glasses and when he slashed my face they actually helped save my eyeballs,’ she said.
The video shows the young girl walking down the street peacefully with her backpack just as the homeless woman swings it.
The blow brought the girl to the curb and disappeared from the camera.
Luckily, Irias admitted that he could still see what was happening and was able to run over.
The video shows Irias running and shoving the attacker away from the girl. He was able to restrain the woman until the police arrived on the scene.
Meanwhile, however, he suffered major cuts to his face from the box cutter.
“The homeless grabbed a gun and before I could figure out what it was I did a takedown and my face was slashed,” he said.
Victor Camarena, Irias’ friend who was across the street, heard the commotion and ran to help him.
“At that point, John already had a suspect,” Camarena told KTLA.
’ He was bleeding from the side of his face asking me if it was bad. I was like, “This is so bad, man,” said a bystander about Irias’ injury.
