Domino’s, the pizza giant, is taking on iconic fast-food sandwiches like the Big Mac and Whopper with its new rectangular, Detroit-style personal pizza, the Domino. The company launched a bold, humorously dark campaign, “Pizza Can’t. The Domino Can,” highlighting the disadvantages of traditional pizza in various scenarios.
From Car Rides to Family Nights
A 60-second hero spot from the campaign shows pizza-related mishaps, such as a car crash while eating in the vehicle and a family food fight. The scenario where a family pizza night turns into a window-smashing brawl is a stark contrast to the usual portrayal of family dinners in advertising. Each of these hyperbolic scenarios is meant to be attention-grabbing and perhaps even controversial, reflecting the brand’s willingness to take risks to stand out.
The ad will run during the 2026 NFL international season opener on Netflix on Sept. 10 and during the Emmys on Sept. 14. It will also be supported by three 30-second ads that expand on specific scenarios, such as the challenges of eating pizza while rock climbing or gaming. A 15-second product-focused ad will run across multiple platforms, including linear TV, Netflix live spots, online video, connected TV, paid digital, and social channels.
In New York, high-impact out-of-home placements will appear at the Nasdaq marketsite and locations including The Trident and Everest. A run of limited-edition tote bags will carry the Domino during New York Fashion Week in September.
“Great advertising is polarizing,” said Kate Trumbull, Domino’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer. “We’re taking a risk to break through the noise and drive awareness, trial, and conversation.” She believes that the fragmentation of media today requires advertising that stands out and challenges the status quo.

Is the Domino Worthy?
Domino’s is not only challenging traditional pizza but also positioning itself as a competitor to leading fast-food chains. The “Is the Domino Worthy?” promotion encourages consumers to compare the Domino to iconic fast-food items. A social video directly takes on McDonald’s Big Mac, Burger King Whopper, Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme, Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich, and Chipotle burrito, positioning the Domino as a contender for the fast-food throne.
“In fast food, there are items that are just beloved, known and iconic, and they tend to be super craveable, portable and memorable,” Trumbull said. “We’re going to leave it up to customers to decide if our Domino deserves to sit alongside fast-food greats.”
Consumers who purchase any of the mentioned fast-food items and upload their receipt to a microsite will receive an offer code for a free Domino, while supplies last. Domino’s plans to give away $1 million worth of the Domino as part of this promotion.
Domino’s sees an opportunity to take share from fast food in other dayparts and on third-party ordering apps, as competitors in the pizza space such as Pizza Hut and Papa John’s continue to see sales declines. By introducing a product that caters to new dayparts and offers customization, Domino’s aims to capitalize on this opportunity and strengthen its position in the fast-food market.
